Compaction

After the layers of the asphalt have been placed, compaction of the layers formed becomes the subsequent important phase. This process entails the use of large rollers to compact the asphalt, and in the process, get rid of air pockets getting to the last stage where it is flat and hard. This is because intimate contact between the layers is necessary in order to create the force that will compact the layers and hence increase the strength of the pavement. Failure to compact the asphalt material can lead to some poor performance and development of other surface problems like cracks. Making sure that compaction is well done and from all the right places will help to make a better as well as stronger asphalt surface.

Cooling and Curing

After compaction of the asphalt, it then cools, and the effective curing time ensues. This requires sometime and it is desirable that the surface of the floor is not disturbed during this time since doing so could cause a distortion or damage to the new surface. Conventionally, it takes about 24 hours for asphalts to cool and cure though variations could be occasioned by issues such as climate. At this stage, the binder becomes rigid chemically so that the asphalt is capable of bearing traffic pressure as well as other conditions.

Sealcoating (Optional)

The last of the three, however, can be done without is the final sealcoat. Sealcoating is fully advocated for in order to protect the asphalt surface and ensure its durability. This includes the process of covering the surface of the asphalt by a barrier that protects it from eroding due to ultraviolet radiation, rain, oil, or just natural usage. As we have seen, Jacksonville is exposed to high temperatures, and sometimes high humidity, which in turns hasten the deterioration of pavements, sealcoating helps to resist cracking, fading and breakdown. A well-done sealcoating allows the pavement to look as new and last for many years without too many complications.

It is important for asphalt paving during these stages so as to ensure it has a smooth surface that will last long. Every stage helps to achieve the purpose of preparing the pavement to bear traffic, extreme weather, and general wear and tear; from the examination of the site to seal coating. If all these methods of work are well followed, then you get to have a functional as well as an aesthetical pleasing asphalt surface that will require little or no repairs for many a year. Every stage of implementation the with use of a driveway, road, or parking lot adds up to the quality and durability of the asphalt.
